Identity

Office of Space Management Identity

The Office of Space Management (OSM) is more than a technical or administrative function—it’s a service, a responsibility, and a commitment to Oregon State University’s success. We are strategic partners helping OSU make the most of its physical environment, aligning with DFA’s strategic priorities, the OSU Space Management Standards & Guidelines, and the principles guiding the transformation of DFA.

As we relaunch OSM in 2025, we are reshaping our identity to be more collaborative, more transparent, and more attuned to the needs of those we serve. We recognize that space is a limited and shared resource—and managing it well requires relationships, creativity, and trust.

Our Role: Trusted Guides

We build trusted relationships and partnerships, grounded in fairness, transparency, and collaboration.

What does this look like?

  • OSM communicates clearly, early, and often with stakeholders about processes and expectations.
  • OSM works with units, not just for them—engaging early in planning processes to shape effective outcomes.
  • OSM operates with a service-first mindset, respecting diverse needs while aligning with institutional priorities.
  • OSM helps units navigate complex space decisions by providing expertise, clear data, and sound guidance.

Alignment with DFA’s guiding principle to convey and confirm intent and respect for all OSU community members through communication and engagement that is responsive, clear, and transparent.

Our Role: Solution Seekers

We solve problems and offer creative, equitable, and data-informed solutions to space challenges.

What does this look like?

  • OSM doesn’t just apply rules—we help interpret them to find solutions that work.
  • OSM challenges “how it’s always been done” when better, more collaborative approaches are available.
  • OSM brings clarity to space allocation processes, ensuring decisions are grounded in data and equity.
  • OSM stays adaptable and curious, developing new approaches to serve OSU’s evolving needs.
  • Alignment with DFA’s guiding principle to balance innovation and compliance through active assessment and management of risk.

Our Role: Stewards of Space

We maintain a reliable foundation of data, policies, and practices that OSU can count on.

What does this look like?

  • OSM is committed to providing accurate, up-to-date floorplans and space data.
  • OSM helps build and support the structures that allow space decisions to be fair, consistent, and scalable.
  • OSM works to stabilize processes, reduce change fatigue, and provide continuity through change.
  • OSM fosters a culture of shared responsibility, where units understand and participate in effective space stewardship.

Alignment with DFA’s guiding principle to improve the satisfaction of OSU community members through empowering employees with appropriately delegated decision-making authority.

Summary:

As OSM evolves, our focus remains on relationships first, solutions always, and stewardship with care. Space is about people, not just square feet—and we’re here to help OSU make the most of it.
