Kelley District Utility Plant

Project Overview

The Kelley Engineering Center building was constructed in 2005. Currently the building has three chillers which are past life expectancy and need replacement.  In its current form, the chilled water system feeds Kelley and Johnson Hall. The KDUP project will expand cooling capacity from 450 tons to 1800 tons and serve the Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex, with future connections for Plageman Hall.

The project will add three 600-ton Maglev chillers and includes replacement and resizing of pumps and piping for additional capacity.

  • Phase 1: installation of two temporary, air-cooled chillers.
  • Phase 2: demo of the chiller room and rooftop units, including the roof patch back.
  • Phase 3: installation of the chillers and cooling towers.
  • Phase 4 :addition of two 300-ton heat recovery chillers and a heating water distribution system.
