28 Years at Oregon State

It is with great pleasure we announce the employee of the year for 2018-19. This year’s recognition goes to Scott Drahn. Scott has worked for OSU Facilities for over twenty years. During this time, he has consistently and dependably offered this campus great customer service. Scott is a leader in the Electric Shop. Yes, he has the title of lead worker but that is not why he is a leader. It is his prime example each and every day. He shows up on time ready to work day in and day out. He leads by his great example. No job is too big no job is too small. He is always ready to roll up his sleeves and take action when it is needed. Scott’s motto has always been to help anyone who needs it. He does this daily. The employees who work with Scott all have a great appreciation for his strong work ethic. He puts people at ease with his gentle humor and is always available to lend a hand. Scott is a problem solver, he is good a troubleshooter and has had many years of success in doing so. He is calm and collected during emergencies and he finds ways to leverage resources to get the most bang for his buck. Scott has truly earned the respect of his co-workers. He has every reason to boast about his accomplishments but he never would.   He lets his actions speak for him by providing high quality work coupled with excellent communication skills. During this past year, Scott was ready to go on vacation. He was literally walking out the door at 5:30 one night when we got a call on the radio that there was a power outage. Scott knew that this could be prolonged; he knew that it could interfere with his plans, and he knew that he could delegate this task to someone else. Instead, he stopped in his tracks took a deep breath and said, “I’ve got this” And true to form he did. He took care of this job as he has with so many others, quickly, efficiently and without complaint.

Scott spends much of his time talking to customers, providing estimates and meeting the needs of the campus community. Every time without fail when his name is mentioned to a campus customer, we get positive feedback. People compliment his communication style his ability to find solutions and ways to get the customer what they need at the most reasonable price. Scott has to coordinate much of his work through other shops. As you can imagine sometimes this does not go as planned. Scott may lay out a day or a week of work only to be told we need a fan motor disconnected or a pump motor reinstalled. He takes a breath and says, “Okay, we’ll figure out a way to help you” And he does. Scott also coordinates very well with the carpenter shop for roughing out electrical in a new wall or having to de-energize prior to a demo. Again, the steady hand and calm demeanor comes through each time.

Although Scott truly deserves this honor, he will be the first to say that someone else is more deserving or that it was a team effort, because of Scott’s hard work, dependability, steadfastness and coordination we do indeed have a team effort. Scott is instrumental in leading that team and setting a strong example of how do the right thing in a consistent manner.

Congratulations Scott Drahn! Employee of the Year. Well deserved. Thanks for all you do.

Please join us in congratulating Scott for a job well done.
